Kick and punch Bass to mono...

Extracted from the Multi-Racial UMI production course…

You might find yourself question your low end mix on your track finding that you are missing a bit of punch even though you’ve compressed and eq’d you might want your Kick and bass to come through more prominent

A little trick that most urban producers do is making sure that their low end frequency sounds especially your kick and Bass are converted to mono

You might ask why?

Centering

First and foremost the driving part of most urban dance music is the kick and the bass converting them to mono centers the sounds in the mix and tightens it up to represent it self with in the stereo spectrum,  most urban dance music gets played out on large systems which are usually set to mono to create a sense of balance in a large environment or club

Alleviate muddiness

It is a known fact that to many sounds that take up the low end frequency will add muddiness to your track, by converting your kick and bass to be mono will lessen low frequency build on your mid-sides in the stereo image which will give your track a sense of brightness

Punch

Converting Kick and  Bass to mono will also give room to your kick and bass to be centered and create a better relation between the two when side chained and eq’d correctly  in order not to have your bass and kick clashing
